SAS Data for Good Initiative

WhaleCast has been developed in collaboration with the SAS Data for Good Initiative, combining Fathom Science's ocean expertise with SAS's advanced analytics capabilities. This partnership has been instrumental in validating and enhancing our machine learning models for whale risk prediction.

Through this collaboration, Lincoln Groves from SAS used synthetic data generation and advanced machine learning techniques to validate WhaleCast's predictive capabilities, expanding our dataset from 40,000 to 500,000 data points and building multiple validation models.

            Technical Innovation: Using SAS® Data Maker and
            SAS® Viya® Workbench, our partners helped create robust validation
            frameworks that confirm the accuracy of our whale risk forecasting
            technology.
          

Whale and Vessel Safety (WAVS) Taskforce

Fathom Science is a proud member of the Whale and Vessel Safety Taskforce, a collaborative panel of experts working to identify, develop, and implement technology and monitoring tools that mitigate the risk of vessel strikes on marine mammals, with special focus on endangered North Atlantic Right Whales.
